Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191)

The Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) allows eligible visa holders to work and live permanently in Australia. This visa has two streams:

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) - Regional provisional stream

This stream is for individuals who have lived and worked in designated regional areas on an eligible visa and wish to live and work in Australia permanently.

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191) - Hong Kong stream

The Hong Kong stream is for eligible Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders who have shown commitment to Australia and want to live and work in the country permanently.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187)

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (subclass 187) allows skilled workers nominated by their employer in regional Australia to live and work in Australia permanently. It has two streams:

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187) - Direct entry stream

This stream is currently closed to new applications.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187) - Temporary Residence Transition stream

The Temporary Residence Transition stream is for skilled workers who have worked for their employer in regional Australia for at least three years and want to live and work in Australia permanently.

Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186)

The Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) allows skilled workers who are nominated by their employer to live and work in Australia permanently. It has three streams:

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) - Direct Entry stream

The Direct Entry stream is for skilled workers who have been nominated by an employer and want to live and work in Australia permanently.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) - Labour agreement stream

The Labour agreement stream is for skilled workers who are nominated by an employer party to a labour agreement, allowing them to live and work in Australia permanently.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) - Temporary Residence Transition stream

The Temporary Residence Transition stream is for skilled workers who have worked for their employer for at least three years on a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) and want to live and work in Australia permanently.

Working Holiday visa

This visa is for people aged 18 to 30 who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year.

First Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417)

This visa lets you holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Second Working Holiday visa (Subclass 417)

This visa lets you extend your working holiday in Australia if you have already completed a first Working Holiday visa. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Third Working and Holiday visa (Subclass 417)

This visa lets you work and holiday in Australia for up to 12 months. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Work and Holiday visa

This visa is for people aged 18 to 30 who want to holiday and work in Australia for up to one year.

First Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462)

This visa lets you holiday and work in Australia for up to 12 months. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Second Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462)

This visa lets you extend your work and holiday in Australia if you have already completed a first Work and Holiday visa. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from an eligible country.

Third Work and Holiday visa (Subclass 462)

This visa lets you work and holiday in Australia for up to 12 months if you are a US citizen. You must be aged 18 to 30 and hold a passport from the United States.

Skilled Independent visa

For invited workers, eligible New Zealand citizens, and eligible Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders to live and work anywhere in Australia permanently.

Points tested stream (Subclass 189)

This visa is for invited workers with skills that Australia needs, to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.

New Zealand stream (Subclass 189)

For eligible New Zealand citizens who have shown commitment and contribution to Australia, and want to live and work in the country permanently.

Hong Kong stream (Subclass 189)

For eligible Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport holders who have shown commitment to Australia and want to live and work in the country permanently.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa

For regional employers to sponsor skilled workers to address labour shortages where no suitable Australian worker is available.

Employer Sponsored stream (Subclass 494)

For regional employers to sponsor skilled workers to address labour shortages where no suitable Australian worker is available.

Labour Agreement stream (Subclass 494)

For skilled workers nominated by employers who have a labour agreement. Developed between the Australian Government and employers.

Subsequent entrant (Subclass 494)

For members of the family unit of a Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) (Provisional) visa holder who are applying separately and wish to join the primary holder in Australia.

Skilled—Recognised Graduate visa

Skilled—Recognised Graduate visa (Subclass 476)

For recent engineering graduates to live, work, or study in Australia for up to 18 months.

Skilled regional visa

Skilled regional visa (Subclass 887)

For those who have lived and worked in designated regional areas on a previous eligible visa.

Global Talent visa

Global Talent visa (Subclass 858)

For those with internationally recognized outstanding achievement in an eligible field.

Temporary Graduate visa

This visa lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. You may be eligible for the graduate work stream or post-study work stream.

Graduate Work stream (Subclass 485)

This visa lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. You may be eligible for the graduate work stream if you have an occupation on the skilled occupation list.

Post-Study Work stream (Subclass 485)

This visa lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily after you have finished your studies. You may be eligible for the post-study work stream if you have completed a higher education degree.

Second Post-Study Work stream (Subclass 485)

This visa is for graduates with a degree from an Australian institution in a regional area to stay, work, and study in Australia for 1 to 2 years.

Replacement stream (Subclass 485)

This visa is for current and former Temporary Graduate visa holders who lost time on their original visa due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (Subclass 400)

This visa allows highly skilled workers with specialised skills, knowledge or experience to work in Australia for up to 6 months.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa

For skilled those nominated by a state or territory government to live and work in regional Australia.

Main applicant (Subclass 491)

This visa allows you to stay in Australia for 5 years and apply for permanent residence after 3 years from the time your visa is granted.

Subsequent entrant (Subclass 491)

This visa is for a member of the family unit of someone who holds a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) and wants to live, work and study in a specified regional area of Australia.

Training visa

Training visa (Subclass 407)

This visa is designed for individuals who want to take part in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve their skills for their job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise, or in a professional development training program in Australia for up to 3 years.

Temporary Skill Shortage visa

This temporary visa allows an employer to sponsor a suitably skilled worker to fill a position they can’t find a suitably skilled Australian to fill.

Short-term stream (Subclass 482)

This visa allows employers to bring in skilled workers to address labour shortages in Australia.

Medium-term stream (Subclass 482)

This visa allows skilled workers to work in Australia for up to 4 years (or up to 5 years for Hong Kong passport holders) and study (without government assistance).

Labour agreement stream (Subclass 482)

This visa allows skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement to live and work in Australia temporarily.

Subsequent entrant (Subclass 482)

This visa allows family members of subclass 457 and TSS visa holders to apply separately and join the primary visa holder in Australia.

Skilled Nominated visa

Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190)

This visa allows nominated skilled workers to live and work in Australia as permanent residents.
